1995 Aerial Photograph with taped overlay from Technique 2, Element 1

1:24,000 scale USGS Covington/Mandeville Quadrangle

Photographic Essay

Ultra-fine black permanent pen

Magnifying glass

Exercise:

1. Review the Northshore Photographic Essay. Note locations of each picture taken and the habitat description for each photo.

2. Using the 1995 Aerial Photography, the 1995 Colored Habitat overlay, and the Northshore Photographic Essay, identify habitats by comparing the
pictures' locations on the photograph.

3. Use the topographic map at the front of the photographic essay (showing photo locations) and the magnifying glass to identify the following habitats. On photo overlay, mark each habitat with a " + " using the black pen.

Salt open marsh

Fresh open water

Fresh marsh

Forested wetlands

Flats and beaches

Upland forested

Urban

4. Match a picture from the Photographic Essay with each of the habitats. Write the picture number from the photographic essay that corresponds to the habitat type beside each habitat " + " mark . Write the name of the identified habitat near the corresponding " + " and picture number.
