Skill 1: Map Use
Element 4: Comparison of Aerial Photography and Photographic Essay

 Materials:
           1988 Aerial Photograph
            1988 Colored Habitat map overlay or 1988 Land Cover Map
            1963/80 Delcambre To
pographic Quadrangle
            Photographic Essay
            9” x 9” overlay
            Ultra-fine black marker pen
            Magnifying glass

Exercise:
            1.      Review Avery and Weeks Islands Photographic Essay.  Note locations of each picture taken and the habitat description for each photo.

            2.       Tape the 9" x 9" clear film overlay on top of the 1988 Aerial Photography.

            3.      Use the Black pen to make four marks on each fiducial.

                          Hint:             The fiducial is a yellow dot or cross-hair along each of the four sides of the aerial photography.

            4.   Using the 1988 Aerial Photograph and the Avery and Weeks Islands Photographic Essay identify the locations of where each picture in the Photo Essay was taken on the 1988 Aerial Photograph.

5.   Use the topographic map at the front of the photographic essay to match a picture from the Photographic Essay with each of the habitats on the 1988 Colored Habitat Overlay or Land Cover Map.  Write the picture number from the photographic essay on the 1988 Habitat overlay or Land Cover Map that corresponds to each of the habitat type.   Write the name of the identified habitat near the corresponding picture number.
