Weweantic River Background Slide 23

The bogs are the prime habitat for the development of cranberry bogs.
Channels are excavated to drain the bog. The cranberry plant needs to be
in wet soil but not submerged or saturated, and the soil must be dry during
the late growing and beginning of the harvest seasons. Natural bog still exists
on the left of the channel and bog converted to cranberry production is seen
on the right of the channel.
