EDUCATION SPECIALIST
    Jean May-Brett formerly the Assistant Director of Educational Television Technology and the Project Director for the Enviro-Tacklebox™ and Literacy & Learning STAR Schools Projects under a SERC grant to the Louisiana Public Broadcasting System, Baton Rouge, Louisiana is currently the Program Coordinator for the Math Science Partnership program of the LA Department of Education. During her 25-year teaching career in New York and Louisiana, Jean taught Earth Science, Environmental Science, and Mathematics to students at the middle and high school levels. A winner of the 1998 Tandy Award for Teaching, she received the 2000 Distinguished Service to Science Education Award from the Louisiana Science Teachers Association (LSTA) and the Outstanding Service and Leadership Award from the National Science Education Leadership Association in 2003. A past-president of LSTA, she is the NSTA Liaison from LSTA. Jean is the State Coordinator for the NSTA Building a Presence for Science Program and she worked as a member of the NSTA/BSCS Development Team for the Building Leadership in Science Education initiative. She is a member of the BaP Advisory Board.

Jean is a Past-president of the Southern Association of Marine Educators (SAME) and the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA). Community service is a key component of Jean’s commitment to education and she is currently serving terms on the Governor's Environmental Education Commission and the Barataria-Terrebonne Management Committee. Jean is a member of the Gulf Coast COSEE Steering Committee and the Educational Outreach Council of the Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean Observing System. She is a member of the regional outreach team for the BRIDGE program out of Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences. A member of the Steering Committee for the NASA Earth Systems Science Roadmap effort she recently participated in the NASA NES Spaceflight Initiative Conceptual Framework Meetings. She has served on numerous curriculum projects including the NSF funded Project TELLUS and SouthEast Maps, and writing teams for Project Learning Tree’s Energy and Society and Healthy Water, Healthy People from Montana State University’s Watercourse.

A Project Maury Peer Trainer, Jean became an Ocean Ambassador and regularly presents workshops on the Maury Modules providing NASA’s materials. She completed the Train the Trainer and Initial Preparation of Environmental Educators courses provided by the EPA. Jean is a facilitator for Project Learning Tree, Project Wild and Aquatic Wild, Project WET and Healthy Water, Healthy People.

Jean is the Educational Consultant to the WETMAAP Project. Jean evaluates content, identifies appropriate geography, mathematics, and science national standards for the WETMAAP materials and workshop activities. Jean also is a co-facilitator for the workshops.
