Skill 2: Scale Determination
Element 6: Habitat Profile 

Materials:

1:24,000 scale Mumper 1982 NWI Map

Topographic profile constructed in Skill 2, Element 5

Exercise:

1. Transfer profile line from Skill 2, Element 5 onto 1:24,000 scale Mumper NWI map.

2. Fold sheet of graph paper with topographic profile on it in half lengthwise with the profile on the outside.

3. Lay folded edge of graph paper along profile line on NWI map.

4. Use pencil. Make tick marks on edge of graph paper for each habitat line crossed by the profile.

5. Unfold graph paper, and using ruler, extend each tic mark vertically to topographic profile.

6. Each vertical segment corresponds to a habitat type

7. Using colored pencils, color each segment with its corresponding WETMAAP color.
