Materials:

1:24,000 scale Mumper topographic map

ruler

Exercise:

1. Use 1:24,000 scale map

2. Examine scale at bottom of page

3. Use ruler

4. Measure distance across study site from west to east

How many inches is the distance west to east?

5. Place the ruler over bar scale (bar scale measurement in feet).

How many feet equals the measured map distance across the site?

6. Repeat measurements across the site from north to south.

How many inches is the distance north to south?
